Book Notes:
- The more productive you can be, the faster you can finish your work. This in turn can lead to more time for the things that matter most.
- To begin focusing more on the long term, start by prioritising your work. Breaking down tasks into aims, objectives and targets is a great place to start.
- Aims take 5 years or more, Objectives between 3 and 24 months, finally targets should be less than 3 months.
- Spend the bulk of your time focused on your top priority.
- Time pressure can be incredibly useful in fighting procrastination. You can manufacture your own time pressure with the use of ‘mini-deadlines’ for the different parts of your goals.
- Share your manufactured deadlines with your boss for some added accountability.
- When you come across simple low priority tasks, get them out of the way as quickly as possible. Use a system like GTD to manage these tasks as they come in.
- Do your tasks involve writing? Begin by brainstorming, then categorising and outlining.
- The last 2 keys to efficient writing are time and quiet. Try getting to the office early when no one else is around or utilise your time commuting to get it done.
- Number of hours spent on a project don’t necessarily correlate to quality. Sometimes the minimum viable product is enough.
- Don’t forget that the point of being so productive at work is to make more time for your life outside of work
