Company Of One Book Summary Notes:

  • Your chance of starting the next tech giant are basically zero. But what if that wasn’t the plan? What if you only needed to create something that generated an extra $100 or $200 a week? Maybe that would be enough.
  • Don’t sacrifice your life for the hope that you’ll be able to one day make it big.
  • While some businesses are focused on ever more, more products, more sales, more customers. There’s a growing number who are focusing on “just enough.” Enough money or profit to allow their owners and workers to make what they need and instead of chasing more, focus on maximising their free time.
  • Becoming a company of one means treating your work like a business. Instead of focusing on just trading hours for dollars, focus on creating. You need to work towards projects which once completed can either be sold again and again or can go on autopilot some other way. Change your mind set about what your trying to accomplish with your time.
  • Don’t quit. Run your company of one parallel to your day job, at least until you see success. Getting started can be hard and it can take time before you start to see results for yourself. Start small and build up from an hour or two after work each day. Make sure that the idea is proven and that you are generating enough income before you even think about possibly quitting your job.
  • When considering your ideal business remember that ideally you want to target a specific niche within an industry. This will help you to define a target audience for your work.
  • When starting out try to avoid spending large sums upfront to get started. You want to begin with the most minimal cost possible and become profitable quickly.
