Quotes:

A good book, when we return to it, will always have something new to say. It’s not the same book, and we’re not the same reader

I can tell you why I inhale books like oxygen: I’m grateful for my one life, but I’d prefer to live a thousand.

When we share our favorite titles, we can’t help but share ourselves as well. Shakespeare said the eyes are the windows to the soul, but we readers know one’s bookshelves reveal just as much.

I’d Rather Be Reading Book Summary Notes:

  • Have you ever been asked about your favorite book? The answer can, for some people, be incredibly personal.
  • Books just like smells can take us back to where we were at the time we first read them or even help us to handle some problem we may currently be going through.
  • You might even consider keeping a reading log. A list of the books you read, when you read it and any additional details you might like to include such as favorite quotes or passages. The author keeps a list with dates a little star icon next to any books she particularly enjoyed.
  • Books can be companions for certain parts of your life. They can even enrich your experiences with new contexts or vicariously through the lives of the characters in the pages.
  • Re-Reading books can also be a rewarding experience as frequently we aren’t in the same situations as we were for the first pass. Perhaps we’re older with more experience and may resonate with different characters or scenes more closely.
