Book Summary Notes: How To Stop Worrying And Start Living

  • Today’s jobs and lifestyle invite worry and that can cause real physical issues and problems to manifest in our bodies.
  • To help combat worry and confusion, get the facts. Work to understand the situation, understanding and facts allow you to implement a plan and take back control.

  • There is a 3 step process to assist you with conquering worry: first get the facts about what you are worried about.
  • Second is to analyse them. Is there anything you can do about them?
  • Third is to make a choice. Decide what actions, if any, you will take and take them.
  • Don’t second guess your decisions to act once you’ve made them. Nothing but worry can come of this.

  • Don’t concern yourself with the past or the future. Focus on the present and don’t let your worries outside this time take hold in your mind. Many mindfulness practices can help with exactly this skill.
  • Fretting and worry take a terrible toll on our happiness. Allow yourself only a certain amount of time and energy towards worry and if your feelings pass that point let them go.

  • Focus on positives and being happy. It’s hard to worry if your busy doing what you love.
  • Take some time when you begin to experience worry to think about happy thoughts. Anything that makes you smile is fair game. In today’s world maybe it’s worth building a YouTube playlist of things that make you smile for exactly this purpose. When you start to feel down, hit random on that sucker and get ready to feel better.
  • Consider that sometimes to feel happier we need to act happier. Simply acting happy will often lead to us to that exact feeling as well.

  • Human nature means most people act quite ungratefully so if you give don’t expect gratitude, give for the act of giving not to receive anything in return.
  • No one is as miserable as someone who wants to be someone else. Embrace your individuality and work to be happy. It may take time, but find what makes you happy and do it.
  • People often make a habit of criticising those they envy.

  • Negative emotions are a huge drain mentally on you throughout a day. Try not to hang onto these emotions as science shows they greatly contribute towards fatigue each day.
